September 2011 - First Day of Preschool

September 6. 2011. Andrew started a little preschool this fall with some other friends. There are four boys in the preschool all around Andrew's age. They have preschool once a week for three hours. The first hour and a half or so is more structured lesson plan and the rest of the preschool is play time. The moms all take turns teaching once a month. We got together to plan out a lesson plan and the structure of each preschool. We sing welcome songs, we say the Pledge of Allegiance, we have a color/word/letter/shape of the day and a lesson (like my last lesson was on Antarctica, and the Arctic.) There is only so much that 3 year old boys can understand, but we use lots of photos and activities. We have music time, singing time, writing time (practice writing, drawing straight lines, copying patterns etc).

He really loves preschool. The first day we gave him a doggie backpack that he had picked out weeks earlier and wouldn't take it off.

He was still in his pajamas and wouldn't take off his backpack. It was really hard to convince him to get dressed for the day :)

I kept asking him to look at me so I could take a photo, but he just wanted to show me his backpack. He thinks it's so cool.

Getting ready for preschool! We can't wait!

Backpack shot one more time.

Andrew has since had so much fun at preschool. He has brought home some fun projects and it's always fun to hear what he learns while he is gone. Andrew knows all his letters and their sounds. He can read and write, but he lacks the social skills that kids with older siblings have. I think preschool will be a great way for him to learn these social skills. The only down side is that preschool starts at 8:45am and lets be honest, we are not early birds in this family. (Well, besides Ryan).
