July 2015 - Megan's Baby Blessing

On July 26, 2015 we were privileged to bless Megan in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Ryan brought Megan up to the front of the church with other worthy men who hold the priesthood, where they circle her and bless her with blessings from Heavenly Father. A scripture from the Doctrine and Covenants say “Every member of the church of Christ having children is to bring them unto the elders before the church, who are to lay their hands upon them in the name of Jesus Christ, and bless them in his name” (D & C 20:70).

This is also the time when the person giving the blessing (Ryan) blesses the baby with a name. This is not a baptism or christening, but a special opportunity to hear what the Lord wants to say about the baby.

The men who joined Ryan in the circle and baby blessing were Matt Dyer, Nick McClure, Tim Chandler, JT Read, Brandon Wilson, and Dave Jackson.

Because of the sacred nature of the blessing, photographs and recordings are not allowed, but I did take notes and write our impressions.

Notes from Megan's Baby Blessing:
*Heavenly Father loves you
*Have a love of Jesus Christ, He knows you by name. He knows you and will be by your side.
*Know how much your family and especially your mother loves you.
*Emulate your mother, have faith like hers
*Be and example of Christ, be loving and kind.
*Love and serve others
*Opportunity to serve a mission and share the gospel.
*Bless you to be sealed in the temple with a man you cherish you, guide you, and be by your side.
*Bless those around you with love and kindness.
*Your name has a special meaning. You are named after special people, remember those people.
*Grow to be a light to your brothers and sisters and those that come across you.

(note the plural of brothers and sisters???? I sure did!!!)


We were so happy to have Audrey join us for the blessing. Megan has Audrey's middle name and I love that Ryan was inspired to include the importance of that in Megan's blessing and that Audrey could hear it.

Ryan had changed out of his church clothes before we could take photos so I made him put his shirt and coat back on. He left his khaki shorts on though. I had put on shorts under my dress because it's easier when playing with kids on the floor. Nick took these photos and wanted to make sure to document our awesome shorts with our outfits.
